Heard It On The Great Vines - Skateboarding News - Monday 22th April
They'll try to apply the rules of the day to the game - where you can't touch your board, or you can't step off your board, etc. And I want nothing to do with it. It's like a game from a different planet or something, and it's hard for me to relate to anybody who would think of skateboarding in such a narrow way.
Welcome to another episode of 'Heard It On The Great Vines'
where we talk about the latest skateboarding videos, skateboard magazines, skate brands, skatewear & gossip that's been releaesed over the last week.
SKATEBOARDING NEWS THIS WEEK
Asics - Next Vibrant Screentest
9 months ago, Asics Footwear introduced themselves to the skateboarding world with their video 'Total Absolute Comfort'.
Now they bring us their second skateboarding video instalment... 'Next Vibrant Screentest'. The name of the video has gone over my head, all I know is that is in line with the trippy, crazy, hipster editing seen in the video.
I'm a sucker for overediting so I don't mind, but I'm sure it'll get on some old heads nerves.
They've got the mastermind behind the old Isle videos and Atlantic Drift series, Jacob Harris, as the main man behind the camera, with this video introducing their impactful team, featuring the likes of Shay Sandiford, Akwasi Owusu and the Japanese brothers Yuta Ishizuka and Takuya Ishizuka.
Stussy - La Guayabera
Bloody hell, everyone's starting a skate team now. Stüssy's new skate video features some names new to me... Stafhon Boca (Great Frontside Flip) and Gabe Thompson (Nuts ledge to manny combos).
Frog Skateboards' and Last Resort's Jesse Alba takes creative control of the video, with Hockey Skateboards and Vans' Diego Todd having some great clips.
Some awesome and unique clips in there, unfortunately, in my opinion, surrounded by too many bails we didn't need to see over terrible music. But we'll let that slide because every time i went to turn it off... another street skating gem of a clip appears.
Miles Silvas SOTY Trip - Mexico City
Style for Miles
Skater Of The Year 2023, Miles Silvas takes his mates Ishod Wair, Tiago Lemos, Paul Rodriguez, Josh Shanahan and many more absolute GOATS on a celebratory skate trip.
Big gaps, street skateboarding legends, nothing else to say really.... it's a must watch!
GASBONG
Filmed mainly in Montreal, Canada, where glass bongs are a common feature, GAS bong (a terrifying sounding phrase) features a lot of the Dime MTL lot with some lovely 4:3 gritty fisheye clips on the lovely streets of Canada ey?
SPRINKLE SF - Josiah Barbosa - Everyone is Different But We Are Still One
Featuring some funky, refreshing jazz, some crusty spots and some lit-up night lines through the fisheye, Josiah Barbosa roams some spots that are as cool as his name, captured expertly by Gustavo Gonçalves
NEW SECTION: THROWBACK STREET CLASSIC
Hringur – Carhartt WIP in Iceland
A documentary by James Craven for Grey and Carhartt WIP captures a 10-day, 1,300-kilometre skateboarding expedition around Iceland's Ring Road. The film traverses a variety of dramatic landscapes, including mountains, volcanoes, glaciers, fjords, and waterfalls, highlighting the sparse yet stunning terrain of the island. With no local guide and minimal urban development outside of Reykjavik, the crew depended on thorough online research to scout remote skateboarding spots.
The film features skateboarders Felipe Bartolome, Phil Zwijsen, Ollie Lock, and Zach Riley.
That's it for this weeks skateboarding news people!
