Why did Polar change the Logo on Big Boys Jeans?

The Polar Big Boys figure was a huge part of why the Jeans were Skateboarders choice of Pant, so why did they take it away from the Coin Pocket?
The Polar Big Boy Jeans have become an undeniable staple in skateboarding. You’ve seen Polar Big Boys everywhere—from Polar powerhouse Oski to Tiago Lemos—the signature fit was instantly recognisable, a little less so now, as they have inspired several other skateboarding companies to add similar silhouettes to their collections.
As Pontus Alv himself put it...
“Now it became like a cult, it’s almost like it’s own brand”
These jeans are the baggiest in Polar’s denim lineup, featuring a super relaxed fit with a low crotch, yet unlike the 93 Jeans, they have a slightly tapered leg for a clean finish.
The Polar Big Boys Figure
They come equipped with five pockets, including a coin pocket that was previously embroidered with their signature Polar Big Boys character, a small but unmistakable detail that has become a common sight at skate spots worldwide.
The Big Boy Jeans have skyrocketed in popularity, embraced by skaters and streetwear enthusiasts alike, and the Big Boys figure had a large impact in that wave of popularity
Their loose silhouette not only allows for unrestricted movement while skating but has also cemented them as a fashion statement beyond the skate scene, fitting the current era in which baggy jeans are in!

When did they decide to change the Big Boys Figure?
Pontus Alv and Polar have not made any statements to explain why they took the figure off, replacing it with the new coin pocket logo, embroidered in the same position the Polar Big Boys figure once stood. You'd think, due to the cult following, that they would keep the figurine for the long run.
But around a year ago, Polar switched it up to a more subte, grumpy face embroidered figure.
So why did Polar change the Big Boys Figure?
My personal belief is that Pontus did not want Polar Big Boys' popularity to be reliant on the trendiness of the Polar Big Boy Character.
Things come in and out of trend fairly easily in the skateboarding industry, and after their initial success, the Polar crew probably wanted to add depth to the Big Boys Jean culture, in order to achieve long-term popularity and to add layers of depth in the jeans cult following.
By making the small change of a new figure on the Polar Big Boys' coin pocket, they bring the culture around the jeans into a new era. Not only does this freshen up Polar Big Boys' position in the industry, but it also allows Polar to rerelease the original coin pocket figure in a future collection, bringing the nostalgia and hype back, potentially making Polar Big Boys even more of a market leader than it already is.
Although at first, it seems like taking away the most successful factor of a product is an obvious error, Polar Big Boys' have shown a very intelligent example of how to retain demand for a popular product. They have done this by being brave, and taking away one of their USP in order to create conversation and increase the financial and psychological value of existing pairs of Polar Big Boys' which have already been sold.
We have asked Pontus Alv and the guys and gals at Polar Skate Co why they have changed the coin pocket embroidery on the Polar Big Boys... so if they get back to us, we'll add there response here!
