Heard It On The Great Vines - Skateboarding News - 23.09.26

“Hitting one LA table proves you got pop, but two is unthinkable...”

Thrasher on Jake Hayes

Welcome to another episode of

Heard It On The Great Vines

where we talk about the latest skateboarding videos, skateboard magazines, brands, skatewear & gossip that's been released over the last week or so.

The shop is closed, Winter is coming, but atleast we have new skate videos to review. We've got Japan with the Hardies crew, two new pro boards, a proper Barcelona skate shop video, Hamburg, Baltimore and 87 seconds of Kader going mad on a mini ramp.

Get a brew on. Here is the latest...

SKATEBOARDING NEWS

HG SIDES JAPAN PT1

Hardies NYC open up the tapes from Japan

Five minutes of the Hardies crew on a skate mission in Japan. That's about as much information as they give us, and to be honest, that's enough.

Japanese footage looks cool at night, and has tight streets and loads of dream skate spots that look like they were designed by someone who made them perfect to skate on purpose. It's a fast-paced video with a solid crew and spots easy on the eye. Part one has done its job - I'm ready for the next one.

Jake Hayes “A Tale of Two Tables”

Jake Hayes battles one of those stupid LA schoolyard ideas that should not work

American picnic tables are made for ants but 2 is impressive. Jake Hayes looked at two of them and decided to make it his problem.

Thrasher follow the whole battle across three trips, with a deadline hanging over it and all the horrible slams left in. That's why the video is 18 minutes long, even though its a 5050 from flatground. Jokes aside, it is massive.

Jake has one of the highest, lankiest pop in skateboarding, and was the right man for the job

Alexis Lacroix’s “Element” Pro Part

Alexis Lacroix is officially pro for Element

Alexis takes on all the elements for Element. Element have finally turned Montreal's Alexis Lacroix pro and sent the news out with a fun, fresh six-minute part.

It starts with him in the rain, carries on through snow-covered skate spots and has all the banks, slopes and weird route choices you'd expect from Alexis. His skate footage never feels like he's ticking tricks off a list. He sees strange possibilities in spots that most of us would walk straight past.

After years of Dime Street Challenge madness, his Ski Ride footage and a big section in Element's Search, this one feels well earned. Ohhh yeahhhhh, as the man himself would say.

Evan Wasser Is Pro for Frog Skateboards

Frog celebrate Evan's board with a two-minute pro edit

No massive announcement film here. In their typical unserious fashion, Frog have called it “Evan pro edit”, put the board online and cracked on. Fair enough.

The footage is a re-edit from Evan Wasser's recent ASICS skate part, filmed by Jacob Harris, Daniel Dent and more. If you've watched his Noah, Frog or Guided Tour parts, the promotion will make complete sense. He has that loose, slightly odd-looking skate style that fits Frog perfectly.

The new Super Powers boards come in 8.25 and 8.5, for anyone who likes their deck graphics as strange as their skating. Congratulations Evan!

HCM

Six minutes around Hamburg with Willow, Theophilus, Carolina and Finn

Free Skate Mag bring us a tidy Hamburg edit featuring Willow Voges Fernandes, Theophilus Löffler, Carolina Gamboa and Finn Nietz.

Moritz Ueberall filmed and edited it, Felix Adler shot the thumbnail and Carhartt WIP supported the project. That's all the official information, so I'm not going to pretend I know what HCM stands for. Hamburg City Madness? Hamburg Currywurst Mission? Answers on a postcard.

The city spots do most of the talking anyway: brick, grey skies and good-looking skate spots. A lovely six-minute skate watch without any big sales pitch attached.

Al Carrer Skateshop - “PREVIEW”

The “preview” is actually a 23-minute Barcelona full-length

Al Carrer Skateshop have been holding down Barcelona for years, and PREVIEW is a proper shop video featuring Henry Fischer, Thiago Lima, Matheus Du Bronks and more.

Free Skate Mag reckon it might be Matheus' best footage yet. Henry smashes it in the streets while also helping with the filming and editing, then Thiago Lima shoves out of the old Javier Nunez City Stars ender at Flushing - the hard way. His gear is hanging on for dear life afterwards.

This is what a good local skate shop video should be: the older skate heads, the next generation and the whole scene in one place. Preserve la cultura, as Al Carrer say.

GROWING PAINS ft. Kristion & Lazer

Plan B put Kristion Jordan and Lazer Crawford together for a new video

Plan B skate videos have never been known for mellow curb skating, and Growing Pains does not suddenly change the formula. Kristion Jordan and Lazer Crawford get 12 minutes to share, with plenty of rails, gaps, technical bits and impact.

Devin Lopez and Aleks Lewandowski filmed it, Aleks edited it and Tim Aguilar handled the photos. The pair have different approaches, so it feels like an actual video rather than two parts badly glued together.

Plan B's next generation are looking serious. The brand thats always been cool, will be cool in the future, but isn't cool now.

Supreme - Mini Ramp (2026)

Kader Sylla and Joseph Campos have a chilled one on a mini ramp

Supreme uploaded 87 seconds of Kader Sylla and Joseph Campos skating a mini ramp, filmed by Michael Rodriguez. That is all.

It's good motivation to skate a ramp with your mate instead of chonging off on the sofa.

Spencer Brown - Shake Junt Part

Baltimore's Spencer Brown gets a Shake Junt part

If you've really got your ear to the Baltimore streets, Shake Junt say you'll know Spencer Brown. If you don't, here are three minutes to sort that out.

The Lyric is his stomping ground and Vú is his local skate shop. The skate part is full of the ridiculous ledge combinations Shake Junt list in the description: front nose nollie backside 360 flip out, switch frontside flip tail to switch frontside flip out, and frontside half cab nose to switch 360 flip out. Technical sh*t mayn.

Spencer's board control is top shelf. The Shake Junt x Vú grip makes much more sense after watching this.

Marquise Menefee Turns Pro for Capsule Skateboards

Twenty years of believing in it pays off

We'll finish with some good skate news. Marquise Menefee has turned pro for Capsule Skateboards after chasing the skate dream for 20 years.

Marquise spoke about growing up in foster homes, losing his dad and grandmother and never giving up on skateboarding through any of it. His first Capsule pro board is dedicated to them, and the money from the boards is going towards his daughter's future.

There are loads of empty “dreams come true” captions on Instagram, but this is not one of them. This one means something. Massive congratulations to Marquise and his family.
