Heard It On The Great Vines skateboarding news cover - 22 October 2026

“Skating at Lloyds in Bristol with jeans on.”

Mike Arnold

Welcome to another episode of Heard It On The Great Vines, where we talk about the latest skate videos, skateboard magazines, brands, skatewear and gossip that has appeared over the last week or so.

This week, Evon Martinez has dropped a very tidy Lakai skate part, Baker and Skullcandy have made headphones look surprisingly skate, and Pocket follow Charlie Birch around London for a day involving Passion, Stockwell and a bit of family time.

We have also got Mike Arnold turning Lloyds into a ski resort, Cambryan Sedlick exploring the outer crust of London, some seriously questionable cobblestones and a Lisbon trip where thirteen people share one key. Organised chaos, basically.

Get a brew on. Here is the latest...

SKATEBOARDING NEWS

EVON FOR LAKAI

Evon Martinez makes six months of work look easy

Evon Martinez and filmer Cage Cocalis spent six months putting this Lakai part together, with extra filming from Gunner Beck, Luke Lutz and Noah Lee. Tom Petty's Love Is A Long Road gives it a suitably big soundtrack, but Evon's relaxed style keeps the whole thing from feeling overly dramatic.

There is a lot of effortless-looking street skate tekkers here, with the sort of control that makes awkward spots look suspiciously straightforward. Lakai have also tied the Telford Low Evon Martinez Denim into the release, but thankfully the shoe never becomes more important than the skate part or Evon's skate style.

BAKER X SKULLCANDY!!!

Baker make a headphone advert look like a Baker video

Baker and Skullcandy have linked up for some Crusher 540 headphones and Dime 360 earbuds. More importantly, Seamus Foster filmed Andrew Reynolds, Kevin Spanky Long, Zach Allen, Mingus Gamble and Macey Lemus actually skating, with Beagle naturally turning up too.

This could easily have been two minutes of product shots and people nodding at each other. Instead, it still feels like proper Baker, with rough edges, good personalities and enough quality skate footage to make the collaboration feel justified. If skate adverts have to exist, this is the preferred way of doing one.

Followed: Charlie Birch | DAY IN THE LIFE

Pocket follow Charlie Birch around London

Pocket Skate Mag spend a day with Charlie Birch, starting at the Passion office before Moroccan coffee, Stockwell and a skate at Manor Place. There is family time in there as well, so it feels like an actual day rather than a perfectly planned list of sponsor obligations.

Bennet Rahm filmed and edited the episode, keeping it moving without rushing through everything. Charlie is good company on and off the board, and these Followed videos work because they show the bits between the clips of a real skate day. London looks busy, familiar and very skate all at once.

Ronnie Kessner's Cygnus Thunder Part

Ronnie Kessner gets technical for Thunder

Ronnie Kessner's Cygnus part arrives alongside his Pro Inverted Thunder Trucks and gives the hardware launch something worth remembering. The skating was collected around the world and there is a nice balance of proper tech, speed and spots that require more than just turning up with a good switch trick.

The precision is the main event, but it never becomes sterile. Ronnie has that ability to make complicated skate ideas read clearly, even when you know a lot has happened between popping and rolling away. It is a proper skate part. Thunder call it tasteful tech, which is actually about right.

FAMILY

CAFE keep it in the family

CAFE bring Adrian Del Campo, Layth Sami, Josh Arnott and Korahn Gayle together for FAMILY, filmed and edited by Rich Smith. It is a straightforward team video in the best sense - four very different skaters, good UK spots and none of the usual brand explanation getting in the way.

There is something reassuring about seeing a skate company simply put its crew in front of the camera and let them get on with it. The personalities come through in the skating, and Rich gives the skate footage enough room to breathe. CAFE are always worth keeping an eye on.

Ace Trucks - Outer Crust with Cambryan Sedlick

Cambryan Sedlick explores London's outer crust

Ben Hatcliffe follows Cambryan Sedlick around the outskirts of London in search of spots that do not normally make it into the standard city edit. The fly-on-the-wall approach gives us a proper look at the mission behind the clips, not just the successful attempts trimmed neatly together.

It is a great exploration of outer London skate spots, demonstrating how much is hiding beyond the familiar central plazas. Cambryan approaches every odd bank, wall and bit of crust like it deserves a chance. The result feels curious, scrappy and genuinely connected to the city.

MIKE ARNOLD - JUMP START

Mike Arnold turns Lloyds into a ski resort

Mike Arnold has made a minute and a half of skate footage at Lloyds in Bristol while wearing jeans. Rich Smith filmed it, some van props have been added to the famous spot and Mike treats the whole place like it has suddenly become a low-budget winter sports facility.

The colours are dull and weird in a good way, the ski wallies are ridiculous and he also does a great switch back 3. Mike sees skate possibilities at Lloyds that everybody else misses. At this point, he probably deserves his own statue there - preferably wearing the jeans.

XD PROMO

Distorted music and quality ledge tekkers

Riley Detar points the camera at Brett Badger, Arsi Reyos and Logan Kirshak for XD PROMO, soundtracked by Jono Fox. The crazy emo, distorted music choice makes the whole thing feel like it has been dragged through a broken speaker before reaching YouTube.

That suits the skating surprisingly well. The spots are gnarly, the ledges get a proper seeing-to and the edit has enough personality to stand apart from cleaner skate brand videos. The ledge tekkers are particularly quality, but it is the rough atmosphere that sticks with you. Not every skate promo needs to behave itself.

Cobbles.

Focus willingly skate the worst ground available

Cobbles accompanies the Focus Skateboard Shop and New Balance Numeric collaboration, marking 25 years of Focus. Miles Kondracki, Jamie Johnson, Robert Newton, Jakob Fuchs Laird, Cameron Lenton and Ethan Murphy take on rough Scottish spots where simply rolling in a straight line looks like work.

The cobblestone theme could have been a quick visual joke, but they properly commit to it. Sick 3D animations and trippy cobble graphics break up the skate footage, while the skating makes every rough landing feel earned. It is strange, epic and very Focus - a skate shop anniversary film with an actual idea behind it.

WHO GOT THE KEYS?

Thirteen skaters, six beds and one set of keys

WHO GOT THE KEYS? follows thirteen people squeezing into a six-person Lisbon flat for one week, with only one set of keys between them. Marcello Tiffou, Valentin Graindorge, Stéphan Gruchet, Abel Bourbouze, Théo Subissati and a large crew somehow turn that terrible accommodation plan into a very enjoyable skate trip.

Basile Marion and Malick Kamité filmed the chaos, with Bisous Skateboards supporting the mission. The one-key problem gives the whole trip its personality, but Lisbon delivers the spots and sunshine. It feels less like a polished tour and more like the sort of badly organised skate holiday people actually remember.

ASCENSION

UNDERTAILOR finish the week with something different

Re-ya filmed ASCENSION with Kaito, Arata, Shohey, Julius, Stack, TBT, Vincent Jansen, Honeycutt Lui, Daito, Kogoseee, Taiki and Manato. That is a sizeable crew, but the film keeps its own visual identity through Re-ya's hand-drawn animation and the mix of contributors behind the camera.

There is plenty of raw street skate energy without the edit feeling thrown together. The drawings add another layer rather than interrupting the clips, and the large cast keeps the pace changing. It is a strong closer for this week's selection and another reminder that the most interesting skate videos rarely need much explaining.
