SKATEBOARDING NEWS THIS WEEK

Vans Shop Riot 2024

Vans Shop Riot

The Vans Shop Riot 2024 went down on Saturday, July 6th, at the iconic Bay Sixty 6 Skatepark in London, and it was an event to remember. The 14th edition of this legendary competition saw skate shops from all over Europe showcasing their best in a revamped format that emphasized creativity, team spirit, and pure fun.

James White, Joe Hinson, Alex Decunha, and Dottie Morgan-Kleinberg stole the show with their incredible performances, taking solo honours in their respective categories. Their skills and unique styles wowed the judges and the crowd alike, making them the standout stars of the event (SOLO Skateboardmagazine ).

The competition's new format moved away from traditional judging criteria, focusing instead on innovative team challenges and individual flair. This year’s events included quirky challenges like "double trouble" and even a waffle-eating contest, adding a layer of fun and unpredictability to the proceedings (Vague)

The day before the main Vans Shop Riot event, a special skate jam was held, featuring a top-secret obstacle designed by Carve Wicked and Forecast International. This pre-event build-up added to the excitement and set the tone for a thrilling weekend of skateboarding

With the new format, Vans Shop Riot 2024 was more a celebration of the skateboarding community than skate competition. It brought together skaters, fans, and industry insiders for a weekend filled with camaraderie, creativity, and relentless progression. Bay Sixty 6 was buzzing with energy, and the event was a massive success, marking another significant chapter in the Vans Shop Riot series ( SOLO Skateboardmagazine ) photos from the event, check out Solo Skate Mag.

Adidas X Dime MTL Carnaby Skate Spot

Adidas Skateboarding has unveiled the Carnaby Skate Spot, a new hub in central London celebrating the city's rich skate history and vibrant community. The launch event, hosted by Dime MTL earlier this week, featured appearances by Stan Smith and music from Darude, including his iconic track ‘Sandstorm’.

Located in the Adidas Originals flagship store, this space is curated with items from the adidas Skateboarding archive, each with a unique connection to London’s skate culture. The rotating selection includes top collaborations and colourways, along with a ‘UK archive wall’ honouring local legends Chewy Cannon and Benny Fairfax, and other historical skate memorabilia from Adidas.

The design includes seating inspired by London’s iconic Vicky benches and a table centerpiece modeled after the pillars of Southbank Undercroft, a legendary skate spot. Both pieces were crafted by Betong Park LTD, experts in freeform concrete skateparks and sculptures. Carnaby Skate Spot aims to be a gathering place for the London skateboarding community to connect, discover, and socialise.
