SKATEBOARDING NEWS THIS WEEK
Gifted Hater - Chris Cole Investigation
A Peak Behind the Curtain with Joa
Everybody's favourite skateboard news reporter Joa, AKA Gifted Hater has released an absolutely shocking bit of research on the situation regarding Chris Cole's abuse allegations. A lot of the industry are afraid to touch on this due to Chris's status in skateboarding, but we, like Joa, think it's important that this doesn't get swept under the rug. The situation has some similarities to the Mason Greenwood situation.
With professionalism and an unbiased view, Gifted Hater showcases nearly an hour's worth of evidence collected regarding Christine Flannigan's (Chris Cole's ex-wife) allegations against Chris Cole, who's now got himself a cheeky new girlfriend Whitney Cummings. Click here to here her own words on an interview by Robert Brink
Grab your popcorn and spark one up while you witness your childhood hero becomes the villain.
Luis Mora - I OWN LAKAI
Luis Mora - I OWN LAKAI
So, I've linked Ricky Glaser's video explaining this situation, as it's a third-party take on the Lakai's situation and explains it better than Luis, but to watch Luis' original video click here.
But anyway, Luis Mora has was offered to be Lakai's team manager, but instead got part ownership and large influence on the brand. He now seems to be the leading face to skateboards to revamp the brand into one that's not a laughing stock.
Lakai in Tokyo
Luis Mora's first project with Lakai
Taking no time at all to get involved, Luis Mora and Luke Lutz took Bastien Salabanzi, Roman Hager, Gabryel Aguilar & Jumpei Tsutsumi to Tokyo, Japan.
God, this is exactly what Lakai needed right now to cut the tension in the air. Due to the spots and architecture, Japanese skate videos are always a pleasure to watch, especially when the level of trick selection is as good as this one. Music's trash though 😂
PASS~PORT - BEEF TO REEF
Pass~Port's latest Trip
While we're all freezing our tits off; Pass~Port teamed up with Vans & Hoddle (another Australian skate brand) and went on a trip from Mount Isa City to Magnetic Island 🇦🇺🦘I am very jealous of the weather and spots at there disposal right now on your regional Queensland tour.
Spots & Sunshine
Behind the soothing reggae/trance throughout the video, Jack Kirk, Adelaide Norris, Matthieu Lucas-D'Souza, Digby Luxton, Callum Paul & Yuma Takei take on some insanely bright Aussie landscapes, which are so dry and simplistic they could be described as almost brutalist. It helps highlight the perfect kickers, banks and other angled areas to skate.
Only thing I have to slag off is that they use loads of B-roll 8mm footage right next to HD throughout the video... how original! 😴 I don't need to see every spot from 4 angles with 2 cameras.
Goldi Media - SCHÜBELXMEIER
Who the hell is Goldi Media?
Goldi Media, underground af with 75 subscribers, are... I don't have a clue, I just follow them on instagram. All I know is they're all steezy mof*ckers from Germany and everything is filmed black & white on a VX1000.
This edit features Christopher Schübel, Daniel Meier, Rene Meyer & Sven Kroschke.
Right up my street
Black and white VX1000 footy... tasteful, zoomed/scaled in to cut out the vignette, which I usually don't like but it works. The Zase Spátky tune makes me want to drop-kick an elderly woman and then skate a fat set. Very well done on the filming and editing Richard Siebert, the man behind Goldi Media 👏 It's nice to see some originality in filming, no 8mm every 5 seconds!
CERTOPANTS - Kilian Zehnder parabolic part
Who the hell is Certo Pants & Kilian Zehnder?
Certo Pants, I believe based around Barcelona, is a clothing brand that sells pants, or as we English say... fakin trousers, including denim shorts, trackpants, and sweatpants. The brand was founded in 2020 by Oliver Weismantel and Kilian Zehnder.
Killian Zehnder is a clean-cut tech wizard with a lovely tre flip, truth-be-told I've only just heard of him but he sold me with the part.. .and for what it's worth, the kegs throughout the video are quite nice 👌
Loads of Vignette, Loads of Macba
First thing, this video has an eeeeeevil tune called 'Rock To Fakie', check it out. Unlike the Goldi Media video, this VX1000's fisheye shows off a fat amount of vignette, which in this case looks great in my opinion. It feels like a video from the late 90's. Good job on the filming Luis Beltran
As to be expected from the ghetto paradise that is Barcelona/Macba, the quality of the clips is exquisite. Another gem of a find, with Certo Pants only having 230 subscribers as of now. You guys need to start giving me props for these underground finds.
Thrasher Magazine - A Summer Adventure Video with Yeti
A good lineup on a good trip
Thrasher provides us the highlights of a trip down the Oregon Trail, in which a heavy roster including Grant Taylor, Louie Lopez and Silas Baxter-Neal get shown around Northwest parks and camping sites by everyone's favourite skate rat scouser Geoff Rowley.
As I probably gave away when I mentioned Grant Taylor, there's some massive bowl skating, as well as some sick Louie Lopez rail moves near the end. It also includes some cute doggo's, some hillbilly music and some funny shenanigans.
ROUGH CUT: Miles Silvas "City to City" Par
Miles Silvas' Legendary 'City to City' Part?
Miles Silvas has dropped some absolute quality parts over the years, but his 2023 part for Adidas Skateboarding might be my favourite.
I love a good rough cut, Miles has a habit of making everything look like he did it without trying, so watching him struggle makes us mere mortals feel a bit better about ourselves. These rough cuts always hype me up to skate.
Tim Janke – Around
Who the hell is Tim Janke?
Repping Adidas Skateboarding, Tim Janke is a silky smooth tech wizard, who just released a part through Free Skate Magazine. I'm not too sure where he's based but the spots throughout the part are magnificent
The part starts with a beautiful front flip into water, followed by a very locked and pinched front crook. Tim's also pretty nifty with holding front noseslides. Excluding nearly falling asleep to the boring tune, the part is a real easy watch, with satisfying ledge manoeuvre after satisfying ledge manoeuvre. It's all filmed brilliantly, mainly by Frederick Schneider, however, there's about 20 additional filmers 😂.
