“I like skateboarding because it's backyard danger. You don't need to go on an alpine holiday to get the thrills”
👻 Halloween is near! 🎃
Welcome to another episode of 'Heard It On The Great Vines'
where we talk about the latest skateboarding videos, skateboard magazines, brands, skatewear & gossip that's been releaesed over the last week.
SKATEBOARDING NEWS THIS WEEK
Nick Michel : Thunder Trucks
A Quick One & a Half Minute Part
Nick Michel releases a little part for Thunder Trucks. All clips filmed well through a fisheye, with Nick skating to the funkiest tune ever. It also features the best full cab I've ever seen, so get on it if you're short on time but need a kick!
Converse CONS "EVERGREEN"
Converse CONS 22-Minute Semi-Full Length
Converse CONS have released a video produced by Ben Chadourne & Ryan Lee, featuring Shane Farber, Ariana Spencer, Eddie Cernicky, Zion Effs and Brian O’Dwyer
Clip after Clip
From the first second onwards, overstimulating clip after clip. Great filming and trick selection thrown at you rapidly. Well worth spending 20 minutes of your lunch break on.
Shane Farber stomped every trick, throwing in the occasional mind-melter over a metal rock tune. He's quality. Ariana Spenser's part had funky hip-hop tune, with a few toe-drag violations... but overall solid. Watch the rest for yourself, it has some cool crackhead dancing in it.
DOWN STRAIGHT UP! I Monster Energy I VOL 2
For every rail Charlie Munro grinds, a fat teenager gets diabetes
Thrasher Magazine released Monster Energy's latest heavy-hitting instalment, 'Down Straight Up', featuring Ishod Wair, Charlie Munro, Gabriel Fortunato, Filipe Mota and more sugar advocates.
Down Straight Up!
The boys earned the energy drink money in this one with a 16-minute powerhouse. Ishod works some ledges in some long lines behind some jazz. Filipe Mota is still doing textbook kickflip back tails with the most punchable face ever. Charlie Munro (INGURLAAAAND) has a cheeky tech tune, some tasteful slow-mo and a great section overall. Watch it, even if you're a normal person and drink Red Bull.
History of Pond: Featuring Morgan Smith | Classic Toronto Skate Spots
More Toronto Skate History
I know the majority of this blog's readers are English 🏴, but these spot history videos are so interesting I have to include them.
In this episode, Battle at the Berrics champion, Morgan Smith, takes a dive into The Pond at Toronto Metropolitan University, formerly Ryerson University.
The Pond
The Pond, also known as Lake Devo in Devonian Square, has been an iconic skate spot in Toronto for over two decades.
With Morgan sharing his insights on what he grew up witnessing and his own contributions to the spot, this episode is packed with history and skateboarding gems. Watch as they cover a variety of tricks and explore both Toronto’s and skateboarding’s rich history at one of the city’s most iconic spots, dating back to the early 2000s.
Paul Zenner - Olydorf
Not a Clue
I don't know who Paul Zenner is, I think he filmed it on a VX1000. I have no idea who's skating in it. I just came across it and it's a cool video. Check it out!
CROONS THEATRE II
Another Underground Video
Croons Theatre are a young crew who have some funky boards. I know absolutely nothing about them and they only have one skate video on their YouTube, but watch it and follow them on Insta, they're one to watch 👀
OUT & ABOUT EP.1 - Paul Rodriguez
P-ROD's New Series
Now seasoned YouTuber Paul Rodriguez has a cool new series where he just films a skate session. Watch him battle a sw back tailslide big spin alongside other ledge bangers.
Primitive Skateboards x Everyone
It's always nice to see P-ROD hyping up the youth, but he needs to stop doing money-grabbing Primitive collabs! His latest is Primitive x Elf 🎄🤦🏼♂️
Mr Krabs got steez though. Still one of my faves... get the bag Paul.
Rafael Gomes in Tupode's 'Insista'
Brazil Skill
Up on Free Skate Mag this week, Rafael Gomes shows off the Brazilian skills, filmed beautifully by (brother?) Diogo Ramos. The vid has some lovely jazz & latino hip-hop, with a black-and-white B-roll intro. If you can get through the soothing 45-second intro, you'll find some crazy unique manoeuvres from Rafael. He's got some mad balance and some lanky steez!
Brazil Spots
Wow, the angles and colours on these dream spots are quality. Safe to say that Brazil's a bit less grey and dull than trying to film fisheye in Birmingham on a Autumn evening 🌧 Free Skate Mag have released a few parts from Tupode's 'Insista" video, so I'm hoping they eventually put the full video out online!
