SKATEBOARDING NEWS THIS WEEK

Old Skool 0121's #BUMBACLART0121 GAME OF SKATE COMPETITION

Who's Old Skool?

Nathan 'Old Skool' Blackwood is a Brummie with a love for the skate scene. After a rough patch in his life and both hips replaced, he picked up skateboarding, pushing with his crutches and starting a well known trend of shouting BUMABACLART!!!! whenever a banger is landed.

He made the sole decision, with some support from ourselves and the fine gentlemen at Ideal Birmingham, to host his own event to bring Birmingham's Skateboarding scene together.

An inspirational bloke with a heart of gold, getting the scene together to give back what skating has given to him. We love to see it 💪

The Games of Skate Competition

50 skate rats signed up for the chance to win their share of the £500 prize money 🤑 Through a Battle of The Berrics style competition, held in Birmingham's Colosseum...

Fastlands:

One of Birmingham's sketchy underpasses', boasting a legendary 7 & 9 stair, a bank, a slappy curb and a pole jam. This spot is legendary across England.

Check out some previous Jam's / Events here:

Beyond Skateboarding: Fastlands

NO COMPLY NETWORK : FASTLANDS JAM 2017

Sabbath Wheels - Black Mass 2022: Fastlands

Every obstacle seen lots of action between the flatground games.

The 50 contenders gathered at Fastlands, put into randomly selected groups. The fittest survived into a final 12, finally rationed down to 4...

The Finals:

The semi-finals saw Seb Wheatley face Marcel Gumienny, with Darren Whitcombe facing Reuben San Dunbar

Good performances all around as people gathered over the railing towering over where the games were taking place, creating a callosum-style spectator area.

Darren and Seb weaved their way into the final, leaving an insanely entertaining 3rd place battle between ReubenMarcel, which led to a T-to-T finale, with Marcel just snatching the £100 prize money. The tension and Reuben's defensive skills nearly stole the whole show. It hyped everyone up for the final for sure.

The Final saw a similar entertaining game... but there could only be one! Seb Wheatley, the Stourbridge Scrubba, took first place taking home the £200 prize money Darren still left with a nice £150 to splash on pints and kebabs n' that.

Verso Tales: Suciu and Salt Bae

What's Verso Tales?

Thrasher's "Verso Tales" is a video series that delves into the making of Mark Suciu's critically acclaimed part, "Verso."

The series breaks down Sucui's tekky trick selection, the thought process behind it, and the philosophy that guided Suciu in crafting one of the most complex and technical skateboarding parts ever.

The Salt Bae Episode

On the fifth anniversary of Mark's August 2019 Thrasher cover, Thrasher share the madness behind his battle at CBS in Midtown Manhattan.

Salt Bae's restaurant, as well as other pain points, make Mark's clip a little harder than it needs to be...

Tyshawn Jones Starts a TV show

Girl Skateboards Mike Mo

Tyshawn Jones Launches "IBICDT"

Tyshawn Jones, Adidas Skateboarding's powerhouse in skateboarding, has stepped into the world of reality TV with his new unscripted show, “IBICDT” (I Believe I Can Do That). This is probably the most Tyshawn Jones thing Tyshawn has ever done 😂

The show is closely tied to his brand, Hardies Hardware, and aims to offer viewers a raw look into Tyshawn's life, both on and off the board.

Inside the Show

"IBICDT" doesn’t just focus on fat ollies; it dives into Tyshawn’s entrepreneurial ventures and personal challenges.

This show is set to resonate with both skateboarding enthusiasts and those interested in the hustle behind building a successful brand. It's a bold move that's more than likely gonna be cringy, but hopefully, The King himself can prove me wrong.

Marcos Montoya - Chapel

Who is Marcos Montoya?

Marcos Montoya is a Florida man merking ledges in LA. He's also comfortable taking on some rails that aren't very friendly. Hooked up by Adidas Skateboarding, Marcos seems like a down-to-earth guy from his interview with Free Skate Mag, which you can find here, and is overall just a likeable dude with a killer new part.

Marcos Montoya's Chapel Part

The music for this one will pump you up nicely. Marcos looks cold in many of these clips, where he's fully layered up. In others, he looks like he's in LA!

The way Marcos handles some steep angles and sketchy rails in this part is of absolute quality. Incredible manual tekkers to go along with it too. Great watch!!

Mike Vallely's New Series: Songs & Stories

Who is Mike Vallely?

Mike Vallely is an old-school skateboarder, musician, and actor. He emerged in the late 1980s, quickly becoming a prominent figure in the skateboarding world for being hard as nails!

Vallely's career has been rolling on 3 decades, during which he has been a professional skateboarder, a lead singer for punk bands like Black Flag and Revolution Mother, and an actor in various films and documentaries.

Songs & Stories

The first episode of Mike V's "Songs & Stories" series shows him performing at a gig and sharing personal insights related to his experiences in skateboarding and life.

Connor Noll - Stumped

Who is Connor Noll?

Orchard Skate Shop's Connor Noll is a skilled ledge and rail technician, who's often accompanied by fellow Connecticut local and filmer Ted Purtell.

Connor Noll's 'Stumped' Part

This part has a top-shelf spot selection, painted with many quality lip and blunt slides. Connor's approach to spots is unique, yet simple. Either they have a lot of weird spots nearby, or Con & Ted are putting a lot of thought into where to go skating. Ted did a fantastic job on the angles, complimenting each other well.

Although a little quirky, the music works well too, bringing an overall relaxed yet stimulating part to watch before leaving the gaff.

Free Skate Mag has brought out a really cool interview with the two of them, which you can check out here!
